Lady Packers 14 & under GRPA runner-up

AUGUSTA – The Moultrie–Colquitt County Lady Packer 14 & under softball team started the GRPA tournament July 11 against Lyons losing 7-3 with just two hits in the game by Jadan Harrell and Brooke Durrence and a walk by Abby Plymel. Lyons pitcher Bailey Holland had 11 strikeouts in the game, sending the Lady Packers to the losers’ bracket to play Augusta.

On July 12 Lauren Bryant led off the game with a double followed by a Durrence walk and two fielder’s choice to take a two-run lead. In the fourth inning hits by Kylie Davis, Jadan Harrell, Jade Horne, Bryant and a double by Durrence led to a nine-run inning. Plymel had five strikeouts and gave up two hits in the win 11-3.

The second game was also an 11-3 win for the Lady Packers, this one against Wayne County, and was led by Horne and Plymel both with doubles and two singles apiece. Bryant, Durrence, Jay Jay Furney, Davis, and Josie Wade all had singles. Horne pitched having eight strikeouts and giving up two hits.

Camden County was the next opponent Thursday. Lady Packers started with four straight hits by Bryant, Durrence, Plymel and Furney to score four in the first inning. In the third inning Davis singled, Horne doubled in the gap, Harrell bunted and a double by Wade put four more on the board. In the sixth inning doubles by Davis and Horne made it 10 runs and a mercy rule win 10-2.  Davis pitched the first inning before turning it over to Horne to shut them down with six strikeouts and no one reaching base.

That put the Ladies in the championship game facing Lyons for the second time. Another dominating performance by Holland with only two hits allowed, and four doubles, three singles and a home run won the game for Lyons 12-2.
