VIDEO: Wallenda soars by teeth and toes over Niagara Falls in historic stunt

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — As promised, daredevil and trapeze artist Erendira Wallenda balanced from a hoop dangling from a helicopter high above Niagara Falls Thursday morning and landed back at the Seneca Niagara Casino and Resort at a few minutes before 9 a.m.

It appeared as though she broke her husband’s record by dangling from her teeth by more than 300 feet above the Earth for more than 20 seconds.

Back on solid ground, she got a big hug from her husband Nik, who five years earlier to the day made his now infamous walk across the Falls on a high wire.

The couple is part of The Flying Wallendas — the generations-old family acrobatic and performance troupe known for its impressive stunts and tricks.

Before lifting from the rooftop of the casino’s parking garage at around 8:30 a.m., Wallenda, her husband and members of their team said a traditional prayer for a safe return.

“Please God, let the sun come out,” Erendira Wallenda said in a pre-stunt press conference at the casino.

The sun peaked out briefly before the flight as she busily stretched and chalked her hands “like a dancer.”

“Five years ago today, I was able to make history and the fact that five years later my wife is about to make history — it gives me goose bumps, it gives me chills,” Nik Wallenda said before his wife headed off into the sky.

The stunt was made possible with support from the city of Niagara Falls and Niagara County, which contributed $35,000 each. Kevin Seneca, VP seneca nation board of directors, said the Seneca Gaming Corp. also chipped in $50,000 to assist her in her “date with history.”

“I want to wish Erendira luck and the blessings of the Creator for a safe return,” Seneca said.
