Water circus coming to Moultrie next week

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Ever wonder what a water circus is all about?

With a new twist on the word “circus,” Cirque Italia will present “a new, modern age show like no other” March 21-24 in the parking lot at the Sunbelt Ag Expo, 290-G Harper Blvd.

“Cirque Italia, America’s first traveling water circus, is constantly searching for new ways to provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences to the American audience, which led to the introduction of our second unit, the Gold Unit,” the circus said in a press release. “Our aim is to produce a luxurious atmosphere where water, technology, and preforming arts are mixed to create a one-of-a-kind show.”

The Gold Unit will be the one performing in Moultrie next week.

“Cirque Italia focuses on keeping the traditional ‘big top circus feel’ under the tent, so the children of today can still enjoy the same experience their parents might have experienced years ago,” the circus said.     “An ultra-modern water curtain that controls every droplet of water meticulously. Words and beautiful patterns can be seen as the water falls to the ‘lagoon’ below synchronized with the most creative display of superhuman talent. The result is simply out of this world!”

The circus features a selection of artists from around the globe — contortionists, mermaids, a laser man, the Wheel of Death — “You never know what to expect next!” the press release said.

The circus features no live animals, although the show may use puppets that look like animals, it said.

The show will open at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday. There will be three shows on Saturday: 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.; and two more on Sunday at 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.

The box office opens on-site on Tuesday. It’s open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on non-show days and 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on show days.

More information is available at www.cirqueitalia.com, and tickets can be purchased in advance at the website or by phone at (941) 704-8572.
