Kaleidoscope Children’s Museum to hold grand opening

MOULTRIE – The Arts Center of Moultrie invites the Colquitt County community to visit on Saturday, March 15, for the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the new Kaleidoscope Children’s Museum.

Visitors may drop-in between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for this free, family-friendly event. The Moultrie Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce will conduct an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.

The Kaleidoscope Children’s Museum, funded and created by the Moultrie Service League, is a new hands-on learning space located within the Arts Center’s historic building.

Designed to spark creativity, curiosity, and exploration, this interactive museum invites children of all ages to discover the magic of art, science, and imaginative play.

Children can explore and create in the following ways:

Interactive art stations engage children in hands-on creative projects that inspire self-expression.

STEM and discovery exhibits allow kids to explore science, technology, and engineering through playful, immersive experiences.

Imaginative play areas invite visitors to step into a world of storytelling, role-playing, and problem-solving.

Educational workshops and programs offered enhance learning through engaging, hands-on activities designed for young minds.

Public hours create a welcoming space for families, school groups, and visitors to explore and create together.

The grand opening events also include a stop by Travelin’ Tom’s coffee truck from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Also, glass blowing demonstrations by artist Ezra Yant, a hands-on youth art station, and a visit from the Mobile Library.

“We are thrilled to open the doors of the Kaleidoscope Children’s Museum,” said Arts Center executive director Joy Yost. “The vision for this space has been several years in the making, and seeing it come to fruition is a dream.”

MSL members began plans for the children’s museum in 2023.

“It’s hard to even explain all the work that has gone into the sketches, murals, and building,” said MSL and planning committee member Erin Ricks. “Concepts, ideas, and dreams really do come true… you just have to see it in person!”

In addition to public hours, the museum space is also used for school field trips and private birthday party rentals.

“Adding this asset to our Arts Center is something unique to our region,” said program and education director Krysta Porteus. “I’m really looking forward to watching kids of all ages explore the museum. We view this as an entry point to further interest in the arts, which kids will take with them into all aspects of their young adult and adult lives.”

The Kaleidoscope Children’s Museum is free and open to the public Monday – Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However it closes daily for lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m.

The space may also be occupied for Arts Center educational programs and private events on occasion. Guests may call The Arts Center for more information at (229) 985-1922 or visit MoultrieArts.org/childrens-museum.
