Former tenant accused of taking furniture

MOULTRIE, Ga. — An investigation Tuesday into stolen property from a David Newton Road residence led to the arrest of a Colquitt County woman on theft and drug charges.

Police were dispatched at 11:20 p.m. to the 200 block of David Newton Road where Joanna Wiard reported finding people inside the house that was supposed to be vacant.

Wiard told police that she had gone to check at the residence after she saw some of her property for sale on Facebook. One of the people there when Wiard arrived had previously lived there, but Wiard had kicked her out because of the theft of electricity that resulted in Colquitt EMC cutting off power.

When police arrived, Dezeree Alexus Nunes told police that she was there with friends moving her belongings out.

When deputies questioned one of the men at the residence with Nunes, he said that Nunes had told them to remove a dining room table and chairs, a rocking chair, rocking-glider chair and other household items.

Wiard told police that all of those items belong to her.

While questioning Nunes a deputy who suspected she was using drugs asked to look through her bags and was given permission, police said. The officer found suspected methamphetamine in one of the bags.

Wiard’s property, valued at $900, was recovered.

Nunes, 19, 1178 Bay Rockyford Road, Hartsfield, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and theft by taking.
