PAVO — The Pavo Civic Club hosted its annual car show on Saturday. However, a rainy afternoon prevented the turnout they had hoped for. 

Last year, the event saw 70 antique cars and hot rods vying for a first-place trophy, while this year only 14 cars made the drive, along with two cars in attendance for the show. 

“It’s a little bit of a light turnout because of the rain, but we tried our best to hold it off,” said Pavo Civic Club President Jimmy Brock. 

Despite a lower turnout, the 50/50 raffle and other initiatives raised money for the City of Pavo to continue to put on their annual Christmas program, where they give toys to the community, along with their Valentine’s Dance and donations to various Library programs. 

The City was also able to save money by putting the show on themselves. 

“Mr. Larry Dudley of Premium Car Shows passed away earlier this year, so we searched high and low to find someone who would come here,” Brock said. “After we couldn’t find anyone, we decided to do everything ourselves.” 

Judges were educated on the various stock categories the vehicles are divided into, including Car Stock, Car Modified, Truck Stock, Truck Modified, Foreign, Street Rods, and Rat Rods. 

They then focus on the interiors and how well-kept they are, the tires, and the overall appearance. 

Individuals in attendance can vote for their Favorite Car in the People’s Choice award, while the Mayor also chooses his favorite for the Mayor’s Choice Award. 

Due to a lower turnout, everyone was awarded a first-place trophy. 

Lula Wetherington won 1st place for her 2019 Ford Mustang and the Mayor’s Choice Award, while Keith Ross won 1st place for his 2015 Dodge Charger and the People’s Choice Award. 

Danny Seth was announced as the winner of the Best in Show Car award for his 1980 Chevy Camaro Z28, and Craig Hamilton won Best in Show Truck award for his 1968 Chevy C10. 

Other winners included Robert Palmer’s 1966 Oldsmobile, Bobby Hancock’s 1971 Ford Mustang, Mickey Parker’s 1973 AMC Javelin, Harold Evans’ 1958 Chevy Delray, Steve Wooten’s 1966 Ford Mustang, Robert Robbins’ 2019 Mini Cooper, Larry Weatherington’s 1998 Mustang, Travis Broadway’s 1970 Chevy C10, and Robert Rabon’s 1968 VW Beetle.
