FBI raids bars

REMERTON — The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Internal Revenue Service raided three Remerton bars Tuesday morning in conjunction with searches in several cities across the state, FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett said.

BlueWater Saloon, Milltown Groove and Sand Bar (which used to be Flip Flops) were searched as part of an ongoing investigation, “the details of which I cannot discuss at this time,” Emmett said.

A home near Remerton was also searched, Emmett said.

The FBI and IRS also served search warrants to places in Milledgeville, Tifton, and Statesboro, among other places, Emmett said.

Macon’s 13WMAZ reported that two businesses raided in Milledgeville were also bars.

The three Valdosta bars are owned by Heath Cox, who said he didn’t know if the bars would stay open and added he wanted to refer everything regarding the case to his lawyer.

Cox and his three bars are supposed to be featured on an upcoming TV show, “On the Rocks.”

It appears the bars are still operating, as evidenced by a Sand Bar tweet sent out after the raids reminding followers of a joint Fat Tuesday party with BlueWater Saloon Tuesday night.
