Anyone who claims there’s nothing to do in Moultrie hasn’t been here in the fall. From now until Christmas, organizations in Moultrie and Colquitt County will offer activities almost every weekend and frequently in the middle of the week too.

In case you missed it, Home Depot presented a Fire Safety Event Saturday morning with a fire truck, police cars and an air ambulance helicopter. Children could build a wooden model fire plane.

Lowe’s plans a similar event this coming Saturday, Oct. 12, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s South Georgia chapter will sponsor another Oct. 19 at Save-a-Lot. Lowe’s will have wooden model fire trucks for kids to build, and adults can learn how to install a smoke detector. MADD’s Kids Safety Expo will feature Sparky the Fire Dog, a rollover simulator, a smoke house simulator and more.

Other events coming up this month include:

• Ladies Night Out downtown 5-8 p.m. Thursday.

• The CCHS Packers play Trinity Christian of Jacksonville at home on Friday.

• The Colquitt County Arts Center will host Artoberfest on Saturday. The event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature art activities, live music, original crafts and more.

• Saturday is also the date for the 100-mile Peanut Pickin’ Yard Sale, which wends from Unadilla to Quitman with tables of merchandise set up for sale. It passes through Colquitt County on Highways 33 and 133.

• On Saturday night, the Arts Center will present Peace of Woodstock, a Woodstock music cover band, at 7 p.m. at Ashburn Hill Plantation. General admission is $30 with VIP admission $45. There will be a cash bar, food trucks and games.

• The Sunbelt Expo will be held Oct. 15-17 at Spence Field. Read the preview coming in Sunday’s Observer to see what to expect.

• Colquitt Regional Medical Center will present its first Angel Dash 5K Fun Run/1 Mile Walk Saturday, Oct. 19, to raise money for Rachel’s Gift, a nonprofit organization working to provide support to parents in the community who are enduring the loss of a baby as a result of miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death. The event starts at 8 a.m. Register at angeldash.org/register — be sure to scroll down and choose the Moultrie location.

• Downtown Berlin will host its Fall Festival on Oct. 19 too. Events start at 9 a.m. and include live music, a hay maze, hay rides and games with prizes.

• Oct. 19 is also the date for NAMIWalks Southwest Georgia on the Colquitt County Courthouse Square. It lends a festival atmosphere to a fund-raising walk for the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

• Rockin’ for Ryleigh, a fund-raiser for the Children’s Organ Transplant Association, will be held 6-11 p.m. Oct. 19 at Ashburn Hill Plantation. The concert will feature entertainment by Just June, Between the Brooks and Heath Deloach. Tickets are available for $20 at Crystal Pharmacy, Gay’s Tire, Ashburn Hill Plantation and the UPS Store.

• Tuesday, Oct. 22, features the annual Ameris Trunk or Treat event, 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the grass plaza by the bank on First Street Southeast. In a trunk or treat, participants decorate cars for Halloween and give out candy to passing youngsters. It’s like trick-or-treat, except the kids aren’t walking the streets or going to houses they don’t know. There will also be games and food.

• On a more somber note, Serenity House will sponsor a vigil for domestic violence victims at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Commissioners Board Room of the Colquitt County Courthouse Annex. Light refreshments will be served.

• Also on Oct. 24, Lasseter Tractor Co., 1000 N. Veterans Parkway, will hold its Harvest Festival with games, face painting, hay rides and more.

• The Packers play Tift County Oct. 25 in their first home region game.

• Reed Bingham State Park will host its Fall Frolic on Oct. 26 with pumpkin carving, a carnival, a costume contest, a family movie night and a hayride. Festivities start at 4 p.m.

• Capping off the month on Oct. 31 will be the Moultrie Police Department’s Trunk or Treat, 6-8 p.m. in the police department parking lot on First Street Southwest. If a club, organization or business would like to participate, they can call Cindy Weeks at (229) 985-3131.

And that isn’t everything! Local churches and schools are hosting fall festivals. The Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority has events planned this month, and so does the Moultrie-Colquitt County Library System.

November brings even more fun with Music Under the Magnolia, Lights! Lights!, and the beginning of the Christmas season.
