Dickerson interested in Hamilton County defensive coordinator position
JASPER, Fla. — Jim Dickerson, a five-time state champion as head coach at Clinch County (Ga.) High, might be headed to North Florida.
Dickerson said he is “very interested” in the defensive coordinator position at Hamilton County High School. There are still details to be ironed out before he can be officially hired.
“All three gentleman I have spoken to — coach (Richard) Vester, Mr. (Donald) Harrison and the Superindent of Schools (Rex Mitchell) — have been wonderful, straight up guys,” said Dickerson. “I’m going to pursue a teaching position and a football coaching position.”
In 15 seasons as head coach at Clinch County, Dickerson compiled a 152-44-1 record and seven region championships along with the five state titles. He spent 15 seasons as an assistant coach for the Panthers prior to becoming their head coach and won three state championships during that time.
Under Dickerson’s leadership, the Panthers won three Class A Public state titles in the past four years, including the past two seasons.
“A great coach,” Richard Vester, the Trojans’ head football coach, said of Dickerson. “Jim Dickerson has 30 years of coaching experience and eight state championships.”
Dickerson announced his pending retirement from Clinch County High, which is set for the end of the school year, in January. He is still teaching at the school and is coaching track and field this spring.
Vester was hired as Hamilton County’s head coach in December and began working at HCHS in January.
