Events raising money for Tripp DeMott

MOULTRIE, Ga. — The one-month anniversary of 7-year-old Tripp DeMott’s accident is fast approaching and the community is still finding ways to help the DeMott family in any way it can.

Next Thursday, Oct. 10, participating Pizza Huts in Moultrie, Tifton, Valdosta and elsewhere will be donating 20 percent of their proceeds — dine-in, delivery and carryout included — to aid the medical expenses for the DeMott family. The servers have also agreed to donate their tips to the family as well. Patrons can use the coupon code 1085 to participate online.

“Please come out and show your support for Tripp and his family. We just want to show our support in any way we can, and we hope the community will do the same,” said Alan Grissin, assistant manager of the Moultrie Pizza Hut.

Tripp was riding his bicycle Sept. 11 in the subdivision where he lives off Veterans Parkway. The Georgia State Patrol said he rode into the path of an SUV driven by a neighbor who was unable to stop in time. He was taken to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCenter.

Other groups are raising money for Tripp’s family too, including DeMott Tractor Co., where his father, Scotty DeMott, is sales manager.

DeMott Tractor Co. is selling #TrippStrong bracelets for $2 apiece and T-shirts for $20.

The company is also raffling off an eXmark zero-turn radius lawnmower donated by Blalock Machinery. Tickets are $20 and available at DeMott Tractor Co. Proceeds will benefit Tripp’s family. The drawing will be held Dec. 23.

If you’ve bought a #TrippStrong T-shirt, or are planning to buy one, chances are an employee from the local design and printing company Georgia Boy has printed it on their own time. Since the       company offered to take over the printing of the T-shirts, their generous employees have taken to printing them on their off-time to help keep the shirts in stock.

“This family holds a very big place in our hearts,” said Tramese Merritt, one of the owners of Georgia Boy.

DeMott Tractor is also giving away a $100 Visa gift card, according to a post on the company’s Facebook page: “We want to thank each and every person who has called, gave, prayed, and supported Tripp and the DeMott family in this difficult time. We are coming up on the 1-month anniversary of Tripp’s accident, and we ask the community to join us in wearing your #TrippStrong shirts for one day, Friday, Oct 11th. To show our appreciation we will also be doing a giveaway to one lucky person or group.”

See the Facebook page for details.

An Oct. 1 post on Scotty DeMott’s Facebook page says Tripp has been taken off of the ventilator and is successfully breathing on his own.

“The support, generosity and kindness displayed by our community has been overwhelming. As a representative of the DeMott family we would personally like to thank every church and business and person who has prayed, donated, etc.,” said Stewart DeMott, Tripp’s great-uncle. “The support, generosity and kindness displayed by our community has been overwhelming. He’s getting better every day.”
