Deputy hurt in struggle with mental patient
MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Colquitt County sheriff’s deputy was injured Monday while trying to get a mental patient to the hospital for evaluation.
Deputy Zachary McQueen was one of two deputies who struggled with the woman at a residence on T Davis Road in Hartsfield. During what McQueen described in his report as “a brief struggle,” his right index finger was injured.
Sheriff’s Capt. Julius Cox said the finger was broken and will require surgery.

• On Tuesday, Deputy Warden Gene Williams of the Colquitt County Prison gave a sheriff’s investigator several packages of marijuana and methamphetamine that had been discovered during security checks at the facility between Dec. 28 and Jan. 4.
In only one of the cases was there sufficient evidence to bring charges. Inmate Joseph French was charged with inmate in possession of drugs and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

• Abraham Lee Jr., 36, 312 Mimosa Road, was charged Jan. 4 on a grand jury bench warrant.
• Penny Laverne High, 37, of Cairo, was charged Tuesday with being a fugitive from justice.
• Kenneth Bernard Enoch, 51, of Gainesville, Fla., was charged Tuesday with probation violation.
Moultrie Police
• Everett Lewis Smith, 29, 600 12th Ave., was charged Tuesday with driving while license suspended, open container and failure to stop at stop sign.
• Monica Evita Edwards, 35, 1738 Gatewood Circle, was charged Wednesday with driving without a license.
Berlin Police
• Betty Phyllis Moss, 58, 1616 Overlook Drive, was charged Tuesday with failure to appear.
Doerun Police
• Ebony Ladonna Jackson, 37, of Albany, was charged Wednesday on two bench warrants.
Thefts
Sheriff’s Office
• Jack Bivins, of Bivins Automotive, 1577 Sylvester Highway, told deputies Tuesday that someone had broken into the business the previous night. A cell phone belonging to an employee was stolen from the office area. The phone was valued at $700.
• Heather Stocker, 500 block Lewis Road, said someone removed $200 worth of hand tools from a tool box under a shelter at her residence Monday night or early Tuesday.
• Louie Norman, 200 block Jim Clark Road in Omega, reported the theft of a cordless nut driver valued at $500 and a $200 air staple gun from his bedroom between Dec. 29 and Tuesday.
Moultrie Police
• Michael Lupo, of Moultrie, reported a cell phone he’d left at Quik Mart, 103 Veterans Parkway, was stolen Tuesday. Police reviewed a video from the store and saw a white male in the store slide a bag containing the phone into his jacket and leave the store. The phone was valued at $727.
• Tina Jones, of Moultrie, told police Tuesday that someone stole her son’s iPhone while he was in weightlifting class at C.A. Gray Junior High School. The phone was valued at $600.
• Rose’s, 215 Sixth St. S.E., reported a shoplifting in which a man ran from the store with two duffle bags of merchandise. The store manager, who had been in the store office when the theft alarm went off, chased him but couldn’t catch him. The incident was recorded on video, and police believe they know who the thief is.
• Christopher Allen Bivins, 1100 block 14th St. S.E., reported Tuesday that his lawn mower was stolen. He said the last time he saw it was Sunday when he left it standing outside his shed in the back yard.
• An official of the RV camp ground on West Yount Street reported Tuesday that she’d let a family live in her camper there, but she discovered several appliances are missing from the camper. In all, the items are valued at $2,700.
• Waffle House, 1900 First Ave. S.E., reported that a man ordered a steak and egg dinner with ham on the side — valued at $14.28 — and left without paying about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
• James Russell Howell, of Moultrie, told police Monday that he went to withdraw money from his bank account Friday morning and discovered all his money had already been withdrawn. He went home and found his credit card and a gas card had been stolen.
Fraud
Sheriff’s Office
• Audrey Murphy, 3500 block Old Adel Road, reported Tuesday that her debit card had been used without her consent at least 18 times between June 21 and Nov. 30 through Verizon prepaid payment services. In all, $548.50 was taken from her account in the 18 transactions.
Moultrie Police
• Dollar General, 1575 Camilla Highway, reported Tuesday that someone passed a counterfeit $100 bill some time the previous day.
Property damage

• John Butler Jr., 1500 block of Highway 33 South, reported someone damaged a window screen while trying to enter his residence about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
• Liliana Cardona, of Hilltop Drive in Norman Park, reported Tuesday that someone had entered her sister’s house in the 300 block of Green Briar Road in Norman Park. Her sister, Josefa Rubio, lives in Guntersville, Ala., and Rubio said there were no valuables in the house. The deputy said entry was made by removing the sliding glass door from its frame; the door was placed inside the house.
Moultrie Police
• On Tuesday, the Moultrie Housing Authority reported a window broken during an apparent burglary attempt of a residence in the 600 block of 10th Avenue Northwest.
• The Moultrie Inn, 1708 First Ave. S.E., reported Tuesday that a two-room suite had been seriously damaged by their occupants. The rooms were rented out about 6 p.m. Monday and the men left around 10 a.m. Tuesday. Maintenance personnel found damage to the room’s microwave, toilet lid and picture frame; holes in the wall and ceiling; and the smoke detectors pulled out of the wall.
• Noel Castro, 500 block Ninth St. S.W., reported Monday his car was damaged over the previous night.
