Attendees are asked to bring desserts. Everyone is welcome.
City of Moultrie gives SUV to Humane Society
MOULTRIE, Ga. — The City of Moultrie was recently able to help the Moultrie-Colquitt County Humane Society in a big way. The Humane Society needed a new animal control vehicle. Recent vehicle additions at the Moultrie Police Department had freed up a Ford Explorer that the city then donated. The new vehicle will offer a temperature-controlled environment while transporting animals. Two new industrial fans were also donated by city employees to be used in the new vehicle.
Gregory to speak at ‘Iron Sharpens Iron’ event
LIVE OAK, Fla. — Monday will be the Live Oak Church of God’s final “Iron Sharpens Iron” ministry event, and will feature Gene Gregory from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.
Gregory, the chaplain for the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, spoke in April at the funeral for the slain Gilchrist County deputies in Bell.
With Gregory speaking Monday, the Live Oak Church of God’s Men’s Ministry hopes the free event will bring law enforcement and the community together.
The monthly event begins at 7 p.m.
While Gregory closes out the 2018 schedule for the event, the first event for next year is slated for February with TV show host Life’s Highway with Wade Spencer, hosting a wildlife/gospel sing event.
For more information about next week’s event, please call Men’s Ministry leader Johnnie Philman at 386-842-5494 or Pastor Wes Tanksley at 386-362-2483.
Barbers offer back-to-school haircuts
VALDOSTA, Ga. — Valdosta City Councilwoman Vivian Miller-Cody partnered with two barbers to offer free haircuts to more than 20 kids at the Robert Jenkins Community Center. “I just wanted to give back to the kids because you never know who you can help. This prepares them for success,” said barber Hilton Lee, whose barber shop is located at 602 N. Oak St. Lee partnered with another barber Toshiyana Jackson to offer the haircuts. Miller-Cody said this shows two people within the city who are a perfect example of the city’s new campaign “Love Where You Live,” according to city officials. Not only is the campaign aimed at anti-littering but it is about taking pride in the community. “I am so excited that I reached out to these barbers and they were interested in giving back to their community. These kids would not have gotten a haircut if they had not given their time. Both Lee and Jackson love their community and giving back to the kids,” Miller-Cody said.
