Sterling Physician Group welcomes six new physicians

MOULTRIE – Sterling Physician Group announces the addition of six new physicians to its medical staff.

“We are thrilled to welcome this talented group of physicians to our hospital and our community,” said Colquitt Regional President and CEO Jim Matney. “Their diverse expertise and commitment to high quality care will greatly benefit our hospital and our patients.”

Don W. Roberts, MD, joined Sterling Group Gastroenterology in September, bringing extensive training and decades of expertise. He attended Emory University in Atlanta, where he received his bachelor of arts degree in chemistry.

Roberts then attended medical school at Medical College of Georgia. He continued his training with a residency in internal medicine at the University of Louisville Affiliated Hospitals in Louisville, Kentucky and a gastrointestinal endoscopy post-graduate preceptorship in Opelika, Alabama.

Jeremy Goodman, MD, recently joined the team at Sterling Group Urology. Goodman is a graduate of Stanford University and earned his medical degree at the University of California San Francisco. He most recently completed his residency in urology at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin.

Daphne Mlachila, MD, is the newest addition to Sterling Group Primary Care, where she is serving as a pediatrician. Mlachila earned her bachelor of science degree in biology from Royal Holloway, University of London. Mlachila earned her medical degree from The University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine-Ochsner Clinical School. She then continued her training with a residency in pediatrics at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Since completing her training, she received her master of public health degree from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Joining the medical staff as an anesthesiologist and critical care physician, Robert Tokhunts, PhD, MD, earned his bachelor of science degree in forensic science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice of The City University of New York. Tokhunts then completed a doctorate in pharmacology and toxicology and went on to earn his medical degree at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. He continued his medical training as an anesthesiology resident and a critical care fellow at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Additionally, he gained valuable research experience as a neuroscience fellow at Johns Hopkins University.

The emergency department at Colquitt Regional also welcomed two new physicians – Bernadette Dazzo, DO and Chris Taranto, DO.

Dazzo earned her bachelor of science degree from Winthrop University before beginning her medical career as a paramedic. She then went on to obtain her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Dazzo completed her residency in emergency medicine at West Michigan Emergency Medicine Residency, where she served as chief resident.

Taranto completed his bachelor of arts degree in psychology at Florida State University before earning an MBA in e-commerce management from Georgia State University. He then obtained his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Georgia campus, where he also received a certificate in biomedical sciences. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
