Sharks win Southern Region title

MOULTRIE — Led by its girls’ 676 points, the Moultrie Sharks Swim Team took first place in the Southern Region Championships held March 24 at the Moultrie YMCA.

The Sharks combined for 899 points to finish ahead of the Bainbridge Extreme Swim Team, which had 458 points; the Douglas Stingrays, which had 326; and the Albany YMCA Stingrays, which had 207.

The Valdosta YMCA Piranha Swim Team had 57 point produced by its girls.

The Sharks were led by Haley Goodman and Kelcie Gilmore, each of whom had 58 points. Sam Peters and Andy Alekseichuk each had 57 and Caroline Rogers had 56.

Getting first-place individual finishes for the Sharks were:

Andy Alekseichuk, 9-10 boys, 50-meter freestyle; 50-meter breaststroke.

Sam Peters, 11-12 boys, 50-meter freestyle; 100-meter freestyle.

Kelcie Gilmore, 13-14 girls, 50-meter freestyle; 100-meter breaststroke; 100-meter butterfly.

Austin Dorminey, 15-18 boys, 50-meter freestyle; 100-meter freestyle.

Caroline Rogers, 15-18 girls, 100-meter breaststroke.

Heather Globerman, 9-10 girls, 200-meter freestyle.

Haley Goodman, 11-12 girls, 200-meter individual medley; 50-meter backstroke; 100-meter freestyle.

Lauren Friedlander, 7-8 girls, 25-meter backstroke.

Also taking first-place finishes were:

The 9-10 200-meter freestyle realy team of Teryn Davis, Kelsey Dickerson, Lauren Friedlande and Heather Globerman.

The 11-12 girls 200-meter freestyle relay team of Staci Repass, Savannah Chapman, Katie Moore and Ansley Moore.

The 15-18 boys 200-meter freestyle relay team of Sam Peters, Austin Dorminey, Sully Pollard and Nicholas Cordista.

The 11-12 girls 200-meter medley relay team of Staci Repass, Katie Moore, Ansley Moore and Savannah Chapman.

The 15-18 girls 200-meter medley relay team of Caroline Rogers, Kelcie Gilmore, Haley Goodman and Lauri Saunders.
