Chalkley, Green win fishing tournament

Moultrie’s Jim Chalkley and partner Robbie Green of Thomasville won the IFA Redfish tour event in Gulf Shores, Ala., on Sunday, Sept. 14.

The pair won a Ranger boat for their winning catch of 10.97 pounds. The tournament will be televised on Fox Sports Net next spring.

Chalkley and Green finished second in divisional points by only one point, just missing the chance to compete for the Cabelas IFA Team of the Year during the IFA championship that will be held in November in Panama City.

Of this and that:

n Former Packer Sherard Reynolds had his 12th career interception to help lead Valdosta State to a 29-6 victory over Ouchita Baptist on Saturday.

The defending Division II national champions are 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference.

Reynolds had three interceptions as a sophomore in 2006, seven last season and has two more or this year, including one he ran back 94 yards for a touchdown in the season-opener.

The Blazers travel to play at West Alabama at 8 p.m. Saturday.

n Georgia Southern fell to Elon 22-20 on Friday and dropped to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the Southern Conference. This is the fourth straight year the Eagles have lost their conference opener.

Former Tift County Blue Devil Charlie Edwards punted six times for a 46 yard average in the game. Former Packer Carter Jones is the Georgia Southern snapper.

The Eagles play host to Wofford at 7 p.m. Saturday.

n Charleston Southern, where B.J. Baker is playing on the offensive line, will play its first home game of the season at 1:30 p.m. Saturday when it plays North Greenville.

The Bucs, 0-3, were off last week.

n Colquitt County’s three non-Region 1-AAAAA opponents remain winless after the first four weeks of the season.

Thomasville is 0-3 and was off last week. The Bulldogs will have their hands full trying to get their first win of the season when they go to Brooks County (2-1) on Friday.

Randolph-Clay is 0-3 after falling 14-6 to Pelham last Friday.

And Wayne County is 0-4 after losing 19-0 to Groves.
