Stanfill, Kolen to appear at FCA banquet
MOULTRIE — Mike Kolen and Bill Stanfill, members of the Miami Dolphins undefeated 1972 Super Bowl champions, will get together again at next month’s annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes John Mobley Memorial Banquet.
The banquet will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 7, at the Colquitt County High cafeteria.
A highlight of the evening will be presentation of two leadership awards honoring the memory of John Mobley, one of the founders of the FCA’s Colquitt County chapter.
Table sponsorships, seating eight, are available for $400 and can be reserved by calling the FCA office at 890-3112.
Stanfill, who played his high school football at Cairo High before going on to win the Outland Trophy at the University of Georgia, will introduce Kolen.
A three-time All-SEC defensive tackle, Stanfill was named All-American as a senior in 1968 when he was the Bulldogs captain and most valuable player.
Georgia was 25-6-2 and won two SEC championships while Stanfill was in Athens.
Stanfill was drafted in the first round by the Miami Dolphins and played eight years, twice being named All-Pro. During his career, he had 67 1/2 sacks.
He was named to the 50th Anniversary All-SEC team, and in 1998 was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.
Kolen played his high school football at Berry High in Hoover, Ala., and played collegiately at Auburn, where he graduated in 1970.
He was an eighth-round pick in 1970, but played eight seasons at linebacker for the Dolphins.
Kolen is a member of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. He is currently the President of Kolen Financial Team, LLC, and is a register investment adviser living in Birmingham, Ala.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is the nation’s largest outreach to student-athletes.
