Sutton falls at state wrestling
MOULTRIE — Colquitt County High’s Antonio Sutton will go into today’s final matches of the Class AAAAA wrestling tournament at the Gwinnett Center seeking a third-place finish.
Sutton pinned Murray County’s Ryan Newton early on Friday guaranteeing him no worse than a sixth-place finish, but then was in turn pinned by James Boatwright of Grayson.
The best Sutton can finish now is third place.
Sutton, the Region 1-AAAAA 285-pound champion, opened the state tournament on Thursday with a pin of Brookwood’s Corbin Nilson and a 3-2 decision over Kell’s Angelo Tabachino, considered one of tournament favorites.
Colquitt County’s Trey Brooks, who had advanced on Thursday, was eliminated on Friday in the 152-pound wrestlebacks, falling to Josh Haskins of Lowndes, 9-3.
