Middle school track teams place third

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school boys and girls track teams finished third in last week’s meet at Lowndes.

The boys team compiled 46 points and finished behind Valdosta and Coffee. The Packers placed in all events except the shop put and the hurdles.

Taking first place finishes were Diamonte Ridley, who won the 400 meters with a 55.84 and Carlos Johnson, who won the 800 meters with a 2:33.

Gary Thomas finished third in the discus with a 108.4. He also set a Colquitt County middle school record in the shot put with a 36-2.

Draoone Hampton was fourth in the 100 meters with an 11.72.

Hampton, Ridley, Tevin King and Ricky Williams played fourth in the 4×100 relay with a 47.72.

Jared May was fourth in the mile with a 5:46.

King finished fifth in both the long jump, with a jump of 18 feet, and the 200 meters, with a time of 24.97.

Hampton, Trey DeBruce, Dominique Wiley and Demetri Suggs were fifth in 4×200 relay with a Colquitt County middle school record of 1:44.53.

DeBruce was fifth in the 800 meters.

The Colquitt County girls also were third, with 49 points, finishing behind Tift County and Coffee.

Meaghan May was first in the 800 meters with a 2:46. Teammate Shabria Reed was second with a 2:48.

The 4×200 relay team of Maranda Trim, Sarah Strong, Meaghan May and Erika Tolbert was third with a 1:58.12.

Asilin Sheffield also turned in a third-place finish in the mile with a 6:59.

Trim, May, Strong and Tolbert ran the 4×100 in a 54:34, breaking their own Colquitt County middle school record to place fourth.

Also taking a fourth-place finish with Bria Wallace in the 400 meters with a 1:06.36.

Trim was fifth in the hurdles with a 16.42 and Destiny Giddens was fifth in the 800 meters with a 2:58.

Taking sixth-place finishes were Giddens in the 800 meters, a 2:58; Wallace, in the discus; Tolbert, in the 100 meters; and May in the long jump.
