Suspect sought in New Year’s Eve rifle discharge
THOMASVILLE, Ga. — Police are looking for a man a would-be victim said pointed a rifle at her, then turned and fired at a transformer, resulting in a power outage during the first hour of 2019.
Police were dispatched at 11:59 p.m. Monday to the 100 block of Lucy Street in response to a woman who was crying and shaking.
The victim told officers that throughout the night, two individuals had been discharging firearms in the street in front of her house. Shortly before midnight, the woman confronted the males and asked them to stop discharging the firearms.
A Thomasville Police Department incident report states the men left the scene in a Dodge Charger.
Officers canvassed the area and found many .223/5.56mm rifle casings.
Police are looking for a suspect identified in the incident.
“We take these things seriously,” said Maj. Wade Glover, TPD public information officer. “We’ve got a couple of investigators working on it.”
When apprehended, suspects will be charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm in the city and criminal damage to public property.
A projectile struck the fuse cutout above the transformer at 110 Lucy St., said Chris White, Thomasville Utilities assistant superintendent.
“Power was out about 55 minutes,” White said.
