Ex-Packer Luttrell thriving in Arizona secondary

MOULTRIE – The University of Arizona football team is not having the best of seasons, but former Packer Jack Luttrell is thriving in the Wildcats secondary.
The redshirt freshman safety had two interceptions in Arizona’s loss to Colorado on Oct. 19 and was credited with 14 tackles in a 56-12 loss to Central Florida on Saturday in Orlando.
Luttrell has 30 total tackles, including 19 solos, this season. He also has returned two punts.
Arizona, now 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the Big 12, will play next on Friday, Nov. 15, at home against Houston.
Of this and that:
Tre Luttrell, Jack’s older brother and also son of Packers defensive assistant Stan Luttrell, started at quarterback for Carson-Newman for the first time since suffering a knee injury several weeks ago.
The Eagles defeated Anderson 28-7 to raise their record to 8-1. They will pay at Tusculum on Saturday.
Freshman Turk Daniels started his ninth-straight game for Carson-Newman in the win over Anderson.
• The Colquitt County Marine Corps Junior ROTC rifle team defeated Griffin 865-805.6 recently in a National Sporter Air Rifle League match.
Colquitt County was led by John Moses, who shot a 240.6.
The other team members are Lizabeth Norman, Maria Fernando Tomas and Araceli Varillas-Rodriguez.
The team is coached by Lt. Col. Jason Perdew.
Colquitt County is competing in the Elite Division, where it is in 21st place. Within the Marine Corps Junior ROTC Conference, Colquitt County is in fourth place with a 1-2 record.
Colquitt will compete next against Northeast Lauderdale Navy Junior ROTC from Meridian, Miss., which is 0-4.
The league includes high school teams and junior rifle clubs and is currently in its eight-week regular season.
• Fans who watched South Carolina upset No. 10 Texas A&M 44-20 Saturday night might have noticed former Packer and sixth-year senior Kamaar Bell, wearing No. 52 and starting at left guard for the Gamecocks.
South Carolina, now 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the SEC, will play next at Vanderbilt on Nov. 9.
Kamal Bonner had seven total tackles, including a sack, in North Carolina State’s 59-28 home victory over Stanford on Saturday.
The Wolfpack, now 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the ACC, will be home in Raleigh next Saturday to play host to Duke, whose roster includes his former Colquitt County teammate Tyshon Reed Jr.
• Eastern Kentucky lost to Tarleton State 13-10 on Saturday in a game in which defensive back Jaheim Ward had two solo and three assisted tackles.
The 5-4 Colonels will be home next Saturday to play host to Central Arkansas.
• Receiver Tyler Walker had one pass reception for four yards in West Alabama’s 17-14 win over North Greenville.
The Tigers, now 7-1, will play at Shorter on Saturday.
Landen Thomas started at tight end, but did not have a pass reception in Florida State’s 35-11 loss to North Carolina on Saturday in Tallahassee.
The Seminoles led 3-0 in the first quarter on a 56-yard field goal by Ryan Fitzgerald.
Florida State, now 1-8 overall and 1-7 in the ACC, will travel to South Bend, Ind., next Saturday to play Notre Dame.
