Thomasville council OKs police car purchases
THOMASVILLE — Thomasville Police Department will receive six new cars as a result of Thomasville City Council action Monday.
The marked vehicles — Ford Police Interceptor Utility/SUVs — will be purchased through a Georgia state contract that provides a guaranteed price. TPD cars were purchased through the contract in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
The Fords will replace six Ford Crown Victorias purchased in 2010.
The cars will be purchased from Wade Ford in Smyrna with third-party financing if necessary.
The total price for the vehicles is $161,238. The budgeted amount is $163,608.
Each vehicle will cost $26,873. Accessorizing will be a separate expense.
The marked vehicles will have:
• Headlight housing
• LED spotlight
• Red cargo dome lamp
• Keyless remote
• Reverse sensors
• Noise suppression straps
Ten police cars usually are replaced annually. Only six are being replaced this year because of paying for in-car cameras, city officials said at a Monday council workshop.
The remaining Crown Victorias will be replaced in 2018, Police Chief Troy Rich said.
