Remains linked to missing man
UPDATE: Valdosta State University reports Cameron Fontaine was not a VSU student but a South Georgia State College student.
VALDOSTA – Human remains found Monday in Clinch County have been linked to a South Georgia State College student reported missing a week ago, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Clinch County sheriff’s deputies “discovered human remains in a wooded area,” GBI agents said. “The remains were less than two miles from where (Cameron) Fontaine’s vehicle was recovered.”
Fontaine, 21, was reported missing Sunday, May 19, with the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, according to the GBI. He was last heard from Saturday, May 18.
His vehicle was found later last week on Highway 441 in Clinch County by sheriff’s deputies.
Crisp County Sheriff’s Office requested GBI assistance in the missing person case. Clinch County Sheriff’s Office requested GBI assistance in the death investigation Monday, May 27.
“The preliminary investigation indicates the remains are likely those of Fontaine; however, final identification, as well as cause of death, will be determined during the autopsy by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Macon,” according to a GBI statement released Monday.
