July 4 fireworks scheduled

VALDOSTA – Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority is scheduled to host “South Georgia’s largest fireworks show on Independence Day.”

The annual authority “Fireworks Spectacular” is scheduled to start 9:15-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, at nightfall, according to parks and rec officials. The show is free to view and authority organizers encourage people to watch the fireworks on the mall side of Interstate 75, between exits 16 and 18. Just look west toward Brooks County, officials said.

Since it is an outdoor event, weather does play a factor in the fireworks show. Rain, wet ground, fog and excessively high humidity can affect whether the fireworks explode, authority officials said.

Authority organizers said they have a plan for inclement weather to reschedule the fireworks for Thursday, July 5, at nightfall, if necessary.

Authority officials encourage families to arrive early to find parking and remind the public to not stop on the interstate or interstate ramps to see the show.

Find more information on the show at the authority website, www.vlpra.com.
