MOULTRIE — A mother and her young daughter died in a fiery automobile crash late Sunday afternoon.

The wreck at Bob Taylor Road and Ga. Highway 111 is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol. Troopers were dispatched to the area at 5:04 p.m., where a black Ford F150 and a silver Chrysler Pacifica had collided.

According to the Georgia State Patrol’s information office, the Ford was traveling north on Bob Taylor Road and failed to yield at the stop sign at the intersection. The Chrysler was traveling west on Hwy. 111 and the vehicles struck each other in the intersection where, after impact, they were both engulfed in fire.

Also according to the information office, bystanders were able to remove some of the occupants of the vehicles, but a woman, 34, and a child, 3, were entrapped and confirmed as fatalities on the scene.

Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock identified the two on Tuesday as Jessica Phillips, 34, and her daughter Ellie Phillips.

Information on a GoFundMe page set up for the family says Phillips’ husband, Eric Phillips, was seriously hurt in the accident but he and the couple’s three boys were able to get out of the van.

“Jessica’s boys lost their mom and their only sister, while Eric lost his wife and daughter,” the GoFundMe page says. “And now the family is planning 2 funerals while Eric is still undergoing treatments for burns at Shands in Gainesville.”

The GoFundMe page is hoping to collect $100,000 to cover the cost of the funerals and to assist in Eric Phillips’ medical treatment. As of early Tuesday afternoon it had raised $27,790.

The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is assisting in the ongoing investigation of the crash.

The SCRT is seeking individuals who were at the scene and observed the crash or the vehicles involved prior to the crash. Individuals who have any information, are asked to please contact the SCRT at 229-931-7000.
