Friend sets up fund for family of man killed by lightning
DALTON, Ga. — A Whitfield County family is grieving the loss of a husband, father and son after the passing of Egan Stanley, who died after being struck by lightning on the Fourth of July while attending a celebration at the Dalton Golf & Country Club.
Stanley passed away Sunday in Atlanta. He was 37. According to his obituary, he leaves behind his wife Kasonndra and two sons, Ty and Weston.
Family friend Brad Ramsey has set up a GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/assistance-for-egan-stanley) to benefit the family. In a post on the page, Ramsey said the community raised the original goal of $10,000 in two days and a goal of $15,000 has now been set since Stanley’s passing. As of Tuesday evening, more than $12,000 had been raised.
Stanley was a 1999 graduate of Southeast Whitfield High School and was a lifelong resident of the area, according to Ramsey.
“Egan was such a thoughtful, caring and giving individual and those characteristics continue forward in his absence,” Ramsey wrote on the GoFundMe page. “Egan chose to be an organ donor and because of his gifts, numerous other individuals will be saved. Please continue to lift his wife, children, parents and other family in prayer over the coming days, weeks, months and years. Pray specifically for peace, comfort and understanding.”
A memorial service for Stanley will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from noon until the service.
