Lafayette, Branford each place three on All-State team
LIVE OAK — For the third straight year, Lafayette High’s Jaxson Beach has been named one of the best quarterbacks in the state.
Beach concluded his record-breaking career by being named Class 1A first-team All-State on Thursday by FloridaHSFootball.com.
Beach was one of three Hornets recognized on the Class 1A All-State team, which also included three Branford players.
Named to the second-team offense were Lafayette senior offensive lineman Parker Lawson as well as Branford senior wide receiver Colton Leibold and senior tight end Junior Cress.
Branford junior quarterback Seth Heiderman and LHS sophomore wide receiver Nic’kel Freeman were both honorable mention selections.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Beach completed 172 of 269 passes this season for 2,416 yards with 26 touchdowns to just three interceptions as a senior. He also led Lafayette with 1,332 yards and 23 touchdowns rushing on 177 carries.
For his career, which included being named first-team All-State three straight years, Beach threw for 6,995 yards with 84 passing touchdowns and 51 rushing scores, all school records.
Freeman was his favorite target this past year as the sophomore hauled in 67 passes for 1,057 yards and eight touchdowns.
Lawson, a 6-5, 280-pounder, was a stalwart on the Hornets’ line that helped clear the way for 215.7 yards rushing per game.
Branford was represented on the All-State team for the third straight year but after having its rushing attack honored in 2017-18, the Buccaneers’ passing attack flourished last fall behind Heiderman, Leibold and Cress.
Leibold, who did a little bit of everything for the Bucs, hauled in 39 passes for 799 yards with 10 touchdowns while rushing for four scores and 236 yards.
Cress caught 19 passes for 404 yards and four touchdowns as Branford’s tight end.
Getting the ball to those two was Heiderman, who completed 112 of 182 passes for 1,803 yards and 18 touchdowns. Heiderman added four rushing touchdowns.
FloridaHSFootball.com released the All-State teams for Classes 1A-4A on Thursday, with Classes 5A-8A scheduled to be announced Friday.
