Colquitt flag football team defeats Baker County, Lowndes

MOULTRIE – Colquitt County is in just its second season of playing flag football and has met Lowndes only three times.
But the rivalry has already become as fierce as the ones in the others sports the two schools compete in.
After winning the only meeting between the two Area foes last season, Colquitt County has swept both games from the Vikettes this year.
Both were decided by one point.
The latest came on Tuesday when Colquitt won 19-18 in a game played at Thomas County Central to raise its overall record to 12-5 and its area record to 4-0.
The two teams are not scheduled to meet again this season, but future games portend to be hotly contested.
“They’re good and we’ve been good,” Lady Packers coach Kirk Woodall said. “Even last year’s game was pretty intense. But (Tuesday’s) game was as intense as any game I’ve been a part of as a coach.”
Tuesday’s victory came after the Lady Packers had shut out Baker County 34-0 earlier in the day.
Lowndes led 18-13 at the half and held the ball for most of the third quarter when it drove deep into Colquitt County territory.
But after the Lady Packers held, a 60-yard run by Ta’Meria Williams flipped the field and with less than two minutes remaining in the game, Mashayla Davis threw a touchdown pass to Caylnn Singletary for the deciding points.
Davis completed 5-of-10 passes for 52 yards and two touchdowns.
Singletary and Williams each caught a scoring pass and Williams carried the football six times for 103 yards.
Amareyia Knighton had another strong outing defensively and was credited with 11 tackles.
Colquitt won 13-12 when the two teams met on Oct. 22, in Moultrie.
Williams also ran wild in the win over Baker County, rushing for 77 of the Lady Packers 206 yards and running for three scores.
Knighton ran for a 64-yard touchdown, Taylor Huewitt threw a touchdown pass and Jaelyn Wier scored two extra points.
Williams has now rushed for 579 yards this season and is ranked No. 2 in the state by MaxPreps.
Davis has passed for 1,166 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Defensively, the Lady Packers continue to be led by Knighton, whose 119 tackles are the most in the state.
Singletary’s 15 interceptions also lead the state.
Colquitt has five more regular-season games, including a non-area game against Veterans on Thursday, Nov. 7, at Lowndes.
The final four games will count in the area standings.
The Lady Packers will meet Baker County and Valdosta on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Lowndes, and Thomas County Central and Valdosta on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Baker County.
