Tennis teams to face Tift County

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County tennis teams will play their final Region 1-AAAAA matches before the April 12 region tournament today when they travel to Tifton.

The Colquitt County boys are riding their first two-matching winning streak of the season and could extend it with their first region victory of the season.

The Packers defeated Thomas County Central and Lee County in their finals two matches in the Bainbridge Rotary Tennis Tournament last weekend.

The Packers (4-12) fell to Tift County 2-3 when the two teams met on March 9 at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex.

The Colquitt County girls have responded to their only region loss by winning six straight matches.

After losing 2-3 to Valdosta on March 16, the Lady Packers have defeated Houston County, Coffee, Lowndes, Thomasville, Thomas County Central and Bainbridge.

The last three victories came in the tournament in Bainbridge, earning the Colquitt County girls the championship trophy.

Girls coach Linda Berl will have senior Lindsay Jacobs again playing at No. 1 singles. Jacobs is undefeated in Region 1-AAAAA play so far this season. Landi Clark will be at No. 2 singles; Monique Murphy at No. 3 singles; Gracie Qurnell and Anne Yearta at No. 1 doubles; and Savanna Lamon and Jessica Harvin at No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Packers will take a 13-3 record into the match against the Lady Devils. Colquitt defeated Tift 4-1 earlier this month.
