Rogers leads CCHS swim team

MOULTRIE — Caroline Rogers took first place in the 200-yard individual medley and went on to score 13 points for Colquitt County in its first swim meet of the season on Saturday.

The Colquitt County girls team finished seventh out of the 11 teams who competed in the Coffee Trojan Invitational, held at South Georgia College in Douglas. The Colquitt County boys finished 10th.

Rogers’ first-place finish accounted for seven points. She also placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke and was a member of Colquitt County’s third-place 400-yard freestyle relay team.

Also on the relay team were Amy Peek, Ashlee Paramore and Kara Dobbs. Peek also contributed to the team score with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley.

Colquitt County’s top performance by a male swimmer was by Taylor Walsh, who was fifth in the 100-yard backstroke.

Other Colquitt County High swimmers who turned in personal best times were Jay Desselle, Chris Phillips, Katy Weilbrenner, Jenny Garner, Lauri Saunders, Jesi Faulkner, Emily Casteel, Amber Phillips, Aubrey Perryman, Meagan White and Sarah Jenkins.

The meet drew 15 teams from south and central Georgia.

Lee County finished first in the girls competition with 85 points, followed by Northside-Warner Robins, Ware County, Northside-Columbus, Jeff Davis, Central, Wayne County, Ware County Magnet, Coffee, Perry, Americus-Sumter County and Cairo.

Northside (Columbus) place first among the boys teams with 97 points.

The Colquitt County swim team, coached by Talia Stewart and Terry Peek, will compete next on Saturday at the Bainbridge YMCA.
