Freshmen fall to Valdosta

MOULTRIE — After winning each of their first two games of the season by two points, the Colquitt County ninth-grade boys basketball team lost their third game, falling by two points to Valdosta High on the road on Wednesday.

The freshmen Packers had defeated Thomasville 52-50 and Valdosta 66-64 to open the season.

But when they hit the road for the first time, they could not get a sweep from the freshmen Wildcats.

Jeremy Downs led Colquitt County with 11 points.

Dominique Pressley also was in double-figures with 10.

Nathaniel Hill added nine, Quin Roberson had four and Derrell Ward, Lawhe Wingfield and Marcus Spradley each had two.

The 2-1 freshmen will go on the road on Saturday to play Baker.

• Wrestlers fall to Cook

The Colquitt County middle school wrestling team dropped a match to Cook Middle School on Tuesday at the Pineland gymnasium, 63-36.

Winning via pin for the middle school Packers were Jesse Goff, Coleman Neal, Tay Spivey, Zach Cannon and Bryce Giddens.

Vandell Gordon and Ethan Register won by decision.

“We’re getting there,” said middle school coach Travis Torbert. “But Cook’s a good team.”

The middle schoolers will meet Cook again at 4 p.m. Monday in Adel.

“We’re forward to doing better than we did on Tuesday,” Torbert said.

The middle schoolers will be meet Valdosta and Thomas County Central at 4on Thursday, Dec. 7, in Valdosta and will return to the Pineland gymnasium to face Turner County and Lee County on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
