CCA’s Spruill places eighth in state clay target championshps
MOULTRIE – The Colquitt Christian Academy’s Wyatt Spruill turned in an eighth-place finish in sporting clays at the state GIAA clay target championships held recently at the Forest City Gun Club in Savannah.
This year was seventh-straight in which CCA has sent competitors to the GIAA state championships.
Also representing CCA at the championships were Walker Edwards, Graham Hampton, James Coyle, JT Underwood and Dixon Underwood.
The CCA team competed against hundreds of athletes, representing a number of the strongest teams in the state.
The CCA shotgun team’s season began in August and concluded with the state championships.
The team participated in five regular-season competitions and produced multiple top-two finishes.
Team members consistently placed in the top-10 individually.
Many of the varsity team members showed improvement over the season in each of three disciplines – trap, skeet and sporting clays.
They also showed increased leadership in recruiting and mentoring junior varsity members.
Spruill, Coyle and Underwood are seniors.
