Colquitt volleyball team to face No. 2 Walton

MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County volleyball team has quite a challenge awaiting in Marietta.

The Lady Packers will travel to meet Walton, ranked No. 2 in the state, on Tuesday in the first round of the Class 6A state tournament.

The Lady Raiders, the Region 5 champions, are 24-7 and won all six of their region matches.

Only Alpharetta, 29-0, is ranked higher in Class 6A in the state.

And Walton is a perennial power in Georgia high school volleyball, having won 21 matches last year, 19 in 2022 and 27 in 2021.

The Lady Packers are the No. 4 team from Region 1 and will take a 10-17 record to Marietta.

The Colquitt County girls team, coached by Jess Patel, is led by first team All-Region 1-6A performers Ny’Asia Harper, a senior, and Reese Webb, a sophomore.

Lady Packers Clara Newton and Nora Avera were named to the All-Region second team and Carli Brown and Madi Lane earned honorable mention.

Region 1 champion Richmond Hill, 25-11, is likely to have its hands full as well when it plays host to North Cobb, which is 30-15.

Lowndes, the Region 1 runner-up, will play host to 17-15 Cherokee.

Camden County, the No. 3 team from Region 1, will travel to play 28-6 Marietta, ranked No. 3 in the state.
