Church members read Bible on Square during Holy Week observance
MOULTRIE, Ga. — Men, women and children from 18 area churches began publicly reading from the Bible Monday morning and will continue through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., in an annual Easter event on the Colquitt County Courthouse Square.
The Colquitt County Pastors Fellowship has sponsored this “Public Reading of Holy Scripture” since 2009.
“The reasons that we feel led to join together for this reading are as follows: to declaring our dependence upon God, to publicly honor the Lord Jesus Christ, to hear and meditate on the Holy Scripture, to proclaim the promises of God’s Word over our community, to pray for spiritual awakening and revival in our community,” the pastors fellowship said in a press release.
“The format of the reading will not include any preaching, only prayerfully and boldly reading the New Testament in the Holy Scripture,” the release said.
When one person finishes reading another will continue where they left off.
“We believe that our community and individuals will be spiritually impacted by the power of a unified church publicly reading God’s Word,” the fellowship said. “The whole community is invited to drop by and hear the readings during the week.”
There will also be two related events on the Square on Good Friday, April 19. The Stations of the Cross will be presented by St. Marks Anglican Church at noon and a short worship service at 6 p.m. will be led by Lakeside Assembly of God at the amphitheater.
The churches and ministries participating this year are: Mt. Olive Baptist, First Baptist, Seventh Day Adventist, Iglesia La Roca, Advocate for Domestic Wellness, Calvary Baptist, New Jerusalem Baptist, First United Methodist, Friendship Alliance, First Presbyterian, Hopewell Baptist, Life Spring Community, Mother Easter Baptist, First Church of the Nazarene, St. Marks Anglican, Greater Believers, Funston Baptist and Lakeside Assembly of God
