No. 13 Bobcat soccer blows past the Hurricanes, 5-0
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — The No. 13 Georgia College soccer team (6-1-1, 1-1-1 PBC) put on an impressive offensive showcase Saturday, thumping Georgia Southwestern University 5-0 in a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) contest at Bobcat Field.
All-American forward Amanda Bartholomew (Peachtree City) opened up the scoring just 23 minutes into the match, slotting home her fourth goal of the season to give the Bobcats the lead.
Not too long after, Bartholomew created another chance, this time picking out teammate Anya Mancinelli (Atlanta) for a composed bottom left corner finish. The Bobcats took a 2-0 lead into halftime with the superb defense only allowing one shot on goal.
In the second period, Georgia College continued to pepper Hurricane goalie Hannah Monroe, launching 18 shots. The Bobcats outshot Georgia Southwestern 42-5 and Monroe tallied 12 saves during the contest.
The Bobcats finally broke through again in the 80th minute, as Mancinelli returned the favor to Bartholomew and assisted on her second goal of the match and team-leading fifth goal of the season. Georgia College senior Sofia Lekas (Lizella) also found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season, combining with defenders Unnbjorg Omarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) and Kai Jeffries (Lawrenceville) to increase the lead to 4-0.
Mancinelli capped the incredible day with an 89th minute unassisted goal to reach the final result. The senior midfielder completed the day with a pair of goals and an assist on the contest, as the Bobcats cruised to a 5-0 win.
The shutout is the sixth of the season in eight contests. Georgia College returns to the pitch Wednesday, Sept. 26 on the road at Francis Marion University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
