One in serious condition after I-10 crash

WELLBORN — A 24-year-old suffered serious injuries Tuesday evening following an accident on Interstate 10 near the Columbia and Suwannee county line.

Sam Bishop Carlton, of Boone, N.C., was heading westbound on I-10 at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday when he approached a semi truck in front of him.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Carlton failed to slow down in his 2006 Volvo, crashing into the rear of the semi’s trailer.

The Volvo spun clockwise and across the inside lane of the interstate, off the south side of the road and into the grassy median facing west, the FHP report states.

Carlton was treated by Suwannee County Fire Rescue EMC and airlifted to Shands at the University of Florida with serious injuries.

According to the report, the semi stopped on the outside shoulder of the interstate facing west. Agustin Gonzalez, the 52-year-old semi driver from Sebring, did not suffer any injuries, the report states.
