Stephanie Terrell will take over for Bob Jones, who announced his retirement last month after 10 years at the helm of the county’s only high school.
Terrell comes to the job just seven months after being named the state’s Assistant Principal of the Year.
Terrell earned her bachelor’s degree in math education, her master’s in secondary education, and her educational specialist in school administration all from Valdosta State University.
Her promotion is the latest in a series of changes for the school system dating back to the retirement of School Superintendent Leonard McCoy last year. Samuel Depaul took over that role in July 2012.
Since then, three of the six school board members have been replaced. Jimmy Taylor did not seek reelection and Deborah Matthews Hampton and Jerry Meister were defeated in last July’s election. They were replaced by Mary Beth Watson, Kevin Sumner and Bobbie Key, respectively.
At the end of the school year in May, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum Maureen “Mo” Yearta retired and was replaced by then-principal of C.A. Gray Junior High School, Todd Cason. Thelma Jackson, principal of Cox Elementary School, has been named to replace Cason, and Trisha Lirio to replace Jackson.
