QR — or quick response — codes allow users of smart phones to click them in one of various applications and visit a website or get other information. Many of Gray’s teachers learned about the codes during iPad training this summer offered by the Instructional Technology Department. Yates is one of several teachers who’ve posted a QR code around their classrooms to take students with smart phones to course syllabi. Other teachers have included the codes on hand-outs to students, leading them to the teacher’s webpage, where they can find homework help and announcements.

Still other teachers use a service called Remind 101 to send text or email alerts to students and parents about upcoming assignments or assessments.

All parents in Colquitt County with students in third grade or higher have access to Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Here, parents can check on students’ grades, behavior, and attendance. Also available is a Campus smart phone app that lets parents keep up with their children on the go. For more information or to sign up for Parent Portal, please visit your child’s school with a valid photo ID.
