Union Missionary Baptist Church is having its ‘Turn to God’ revival Sept. 18-20, 7:30 p.m. nightly and culminating on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 3 p.m. with a Family and Friends Day Concert.
The Rev. H. Clinton Boyd, pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Albany, is the guest speaker for all three nights. The order of service will be rendered nightly with community churches’ participation along with the Union Baptist congregation.
Boyd was born on Nov. 28, 1926, the son of the late Deacon Ernest F. and Mrs. Eula W. Boyd of Ludowici, Ga. He is the youngest son among 10 children born to this union.
Boyd preached his initial sermon in Oahu, Hawaii while serving in the military and was ordained in 1948. He has pastored several churches over the years with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Albany, having the most longevity of service and where in April of this year he celebrated 54 years of service to that body. He and his wife, the late Mrs. Barbara R. Boyd are the parents of two, a son, William H. Boyd (wife Carolyn), and a daughter, Dr. D. Ann McCrary (husband Bishop J. T. McCrary).
Since his matriculation at Morehouse College of Atlanta, Boyd has served in many ministerial capacities, including pastor, evangelist, moderator of the Hopewell Association, founding dean of the School of Religion of the Albany Theological Seminary, and many others. A community activist and a civil rights legend, Boyd has championed many causes including voter registration in Dougherty County and served on the Board of the Dougherty County Department of Family and Children Services (within the past year he has resigned from his 25-year post).
Union Missionary Baptist Church is located at 103 Second St. N.W. The Rev. R.O. Calhoun is the pastor.
