Jewell P. Butler
MOULTRIE — Jewell P. Butler, 87, of Moultrie, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at her residence.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, at Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Benton officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memory Gardens.
Born Feb. 18, 1915, in Irwin County, Mrs. Butler was the daughter of the late Amos and Amanda Pruett. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Moultrie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Vernon Butler.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce B. Lasley, Betty B. Vereen and Patricia B. Henson, all of Moultrie; five grandchildren, Rob Henson, Julie Henson, Ty Hugh Miller, Anne-Louise Lasley and Emily-Elizabeth Lasley; and a great-grandchild, Benjamin Lasley.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Colquitt Regional Medical Center Hospice.
Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. — Brett Davis Love, 29, of Owens Cross Roads, Ala., died Sunday, March 3, 2002, in Alabama.
Berry Hill Funeral Home and Cobb Funeral Chapel are in charge of arrangements.
John J. Patterson Jr.
LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. — U.S. Air Force Col. John J. Patterson Jr., 67, died at his home in Laguna Niguel, Calif., on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Pacific View Memorial Park Funeral Home in Newport Beach.
Mr. Patterson was married to the former Dorothy Bell, daughter of the late Thomas Dewitt Bell (former Moultrie chief of police) and the late Irene Bell Humphreys. Dorothy’s sister, Myra Owens, currently resides in Tifton, and another sister, Sallie Humphreys, lives in Austin, Texas.
A former jet fighter pilot, Mr. Patterson retired from the Air Force after more than 27 years and subsequently worked another 18 years in the aerospace industry, for Parker Hannifin Corporation, prior to retirement last year.
Other survivors include his sons, John and James and their respective wives Debbie and Ellie; son Tom; grandchildren, Lauren and Brennan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne and Bob Roche, Margaret and John Doyle; and several nieces and nephews.

MOULTRIE — James Brown, 63, of 201 Sixth St. N.W., died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Archbold Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Luke Strong and Son Mortuary.

NORMAN PARK — Mrs. Claudia Mae Rouse, 87, of Norman Park, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

MOULTRIE — Carrie Lee Williams, 83, of Moultrie died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Woodlands at Cobblestone.

Louise Carrie Grogan Swicord
MOULTRIE — Louise Carrie Grogan Swicord, 70, of Moultrie, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Pat Merrill officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Wayne Newton Jr., Jason Newton, Jeffery Herndon, Joshua Kent, Dean Burner and Charles Block.
Born Sept. 9, 1931, in Colquitt County, Mrs. Swicord was the daughter of the late Nancy Goss Grogan and Porter Grogan. She was a nurse’s aid at Colquitt Regional Medical Center and a member of the First Church of Nazarene.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Swicord; two brothers, Vernon Grogan and James F. Grogan; three sisters, Peggy Allen, Margie Gibbs and Arlene Romosser; a grandchild, James Wheeless; and two great-grandchildren, Kurstin Henson and Sydney Morgan.
Survivors include a son, Paul David Swicord of Moultrie; four daughters, Marilyn Beverly, Lawanna Perkins, and Nancy Kent and husband Jack, all of Moultrie, and Brenda Wiersma of Dubuque, Iowa; brothers, John Grogan and Charles Grogan, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters, Mayrell Barker of Moultrie and Jewrell Buchanan of Louisville,
Ky.; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral chapel.
