Julian Morris Sloan

AUGUSTA — Julian Morris Sloan, 57, died at his home in Augusta, Ga.

A memorial service and interment will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 5 in the family plot at the Murphy Cemetery with Father Michael Smith officiating.

Born July 6, 1947, in Shanghai, China, he was the son of the late Lt. Col. Edgar Morris Sloan and the late Hilda Mary Barretto Sloan. He was of the Catholic faith.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Sloan Forrester of Augusta; grandparents, Newton and Priscilla Sloan of Coolidge; an uncle, Newton Sloan Jr. and an aunt, Inez Sloan Henderson.

Survivors include two sisters, Dianne Sloan Bradley of Tampa and Rita Sloan Caam of Amherst, Va.; and a host of dear nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friends.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The family will receive friends at the conclusion of the graveside service.

Wimberly Monument and Memorials is in charge of local arrangements.



Geniece Hawkins

MOULTRIE — Geniece Hawkins, 45, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2005, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Luke Strong and Son Mortuary.

Visitation for the Rev. Sammy Brooks, 66, of Doerun, who died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, will be held 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, at Luke Strong and Son Chapel.



Howard Darrell Peak

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Howard Darrell Peak, 55, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, in Fort Myers.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Baker Funeral Home.



Sherry Johnson

LAWRENCEVILLE — Sherry Lynn Johnson of Lawrenceville died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, in Gwinnett County.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Donald Trimble Mortuary in Decatur with Minister Alphonso Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Survivors include her mother, Pearlie Hill of Ocilla; and three sons, Enrico Jenkins of Durham, N.C., Vinson Jenkins of Indianapolis and Kevin Jenkins of Lawrenceville.

Edd Carley Wetherington

COOLIDGE — Edd Carley Wetherington, 36, of Coolidge, formerly of Griffin, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, in Brooks County.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Pullen officiating. Interment will follow at Enon Cemetery. Donnie Collier, Marc Collier, Ollie Hortman, Jay Hortman, Robert Hortman, Mickey Taylor, Jody Smith and Frank “Chuck” Wetherington will serve as casketbearers.

Born Nov. 3, 1968, in Dekalb County, Mr. Wetherington was the son of Carol Jane Wetherington and the late Avon Wetherington. He was a teacher at Moultrie Technical College and with the Colquitt County Prison System and was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and was a musician, philosopher and an avid reader.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Donnie L. Smith, Colon Wetherington and Amy McMillan Wetherington.

Survivors include his mother, Carol Jane Wetherington; a grandmother, Florine D. Smith of Coolidge; and aunts and uncles J.C. and Frances Hortman of Pavo, Frank Wetherington of Thomasville and Marcus and Donna Collier of Cartersville.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Duel Glen Arrington

FUNSTON — Duel Glen Arrington, 88, of Funston died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ron Shiver officiating. Interment will follow at Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens. John Yearty, James Yearty, Sam Lamberth, Danny Arrington, Donnie Arrington, Mark Brinson, David Muller and Scott Gorman will serve as casketbearers. Grandchildren of Mr. Arrington will serve as honorary casketbearers.

Born March 12, 1917, in Heard County, Mr. Arrington was the son of the late Lucy Walls Arrington and the late Isom Arrington. He was a retired farmer and dairyman and served on the Colquitt County School Board. He was named a Master Farmer of the Year and was a member of Funston Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Young Arrington of Funston; a son, Larry Arrington and wife Cathy of Moultrie; two daughters, Marvelyne Hood and husband Lex of Nashville, Tenn. and Nell Muller and husband Hugh of Melbourne, Fla.; nine grandchildren, John Yearty, James Yearty, Jennifer Lamberth, Melanie Gorman, David Muller, Debbie Prince, Donna Brinson, Danny Arrington and Donnie Arrington; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the funeral home.

Ernest “Buster” Mathis

MOULTRIE — Ernest “Buster” Mathis, 50, of Moultrie died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville.

Johnnie W. Mulkey

MOULTRIE — Johnnie W. Mulkey, 85, of Moultrie died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Brother William Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery. Lawrence Banks, Oliver Barrett, Pete Benford, Daniel Glass, Calvin Wilson and Lawrence Wise will serve as pallbearers.

Born July 17, 1920, in Arlington, Ga., Mrs. Mulkey was the daughter of the late Willie Pinkney and the late Lizzie Jackson. She worked for many years in the Dade County Public School System in Miami, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mulkey; two sons, Otis Mulkey and Lamar Mulkey; three brothers, Andrew Pinkney, Charles Pinkney and Jessie Pinkney; and three sisters, Verdell Jackson, Jewell Foster and Elizabeth Young.

Survivors include two sons, Lynwood Mulkey and wife Betty of Miami and Cecil D. Mulkey and wife Kathy of Homestead, Fla.; three daughters, Myrtis Mulkey-Ndawula and husband Eric and Carolyn Mulkey, all of Moultrie and Marva Mayfield of Trenton, N.J.; one brother, Shiloh Pinkney and wife Shirley of Lakeland, Fla.; three sisters, Ella Mae Kennedy of Albany, Thelma Foster and husband Loyce of Lakeland, Fla. and Fannie Maude Potts of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Lynwood James Mulkey, Jetty Saleem and husband Elijah and Michael Hull, all of Miami; a stepdaughter, Lizzie Collins of Philadelphia; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
