MOULTRIE — Two people, including an 18-year-old woman, were killed and two other people were injured in a three-vehicle accident on Highway 133 South Friday morning. None of the victims was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Brittany Michelle Huite, 18, of 655 Connell Road, and Edgar Jameson Byrd, 64, of 136 Lynch St. in Crosland, were killed in the accident that took place about 8:37 a.m. Friday morning. Moultrie Police Sgt. Sam Smith said both were dead when the police officer arrived.

Gregory Allen Harris, 35, and Kendall Allen Harris, 13, both of 200 15th St. S.E., were injured in the accident, and Smith said both were taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center by Colquitt County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel. Gregory Harris was treated for his injuries and released Friday, but Kendall Harris was transferred to John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville.

The accident took place on Highway 133 South near the Regency Village intersection when a Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by Huite, sped up to pass a tractor-trailer, Smith said. Before Huite got back into the right-hand lane, the Eclipse hit the right rear corner of a GMC 3500 truck, driven by Gregory Harris, as the truck was stopped in the left lane to make a left turn into a nearby gas station.

Smith said the impact from the Eclipse caused the GMC to go into the opposite lane of traffic, and it hit a Ford Ranger, driven by Byrd, head-on. Both lanes of traffic on Highway 133 were delayed for several hours as Moultrie police officers, Moultrie firefighters and the Georgia Department of Transportation investigated the accident.

Part of the GMC truck penetrated about three feet inside the Eclipse due to the impact, Smith said. Moultrie firefighters had to extricate Huite from the vehicle due to the severity of the damage to the Eclipse.
