Ernest A. Tucker

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Ernest A. Tucker, 82, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at his residence in Jacksonville.

A Moultrie, Ga., native, Mr. Tucker had resided in Jacksonville since 1953. He was a member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Hilliard, Fla.

Survivors include two sons, Doyle C. (Betty) Tucker and Larry N. (Geraldine) Tucker; three daughters, Ernestine Ingram, Carolyn Stivender and Darlene Cannon; two brothers, Mike Tucker and Gene Tucker; two sisters, Nell Tucker and Charollette Tucker; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the chapel of Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, with the Rev. Walter Barnard officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Howard Lavon Strickland

HARTSFIELD — Howard Lavon Strickland, 69, of 261 Coleman Road, Hartsfield, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with interment in Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Johnny Cooper will officiate. Pallbearers will be Darrell Strickland, Roger Strickland, Derrick Stephenson, Brent Murphy and Gerald Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be Wanzie Tucker, Keith Kidd, Terry Kidd and Tom Gray.

Mr. Strickland was born April 13, 1934, in Colquitt County to the late Sarah Glenn Potts Strickland and the late James Steven “Jim” Strickland. He served as executive director of the Farm Service Agency, from which he retired in 1997. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Tucker Strickland of Hartsfield; two sons, Dennis Strickland and wife Marsha of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Glenn Strickland and wife Trina of Hartsfield; two daughters, Donna Murphy and husband Donnie of Lenox and Rhonda Marchant and husband Mitch of Sale City; a sister, Annie Alsobrook and husband Bobby of Tifton; grandchildren, Brent Murphy, Erin Murphy, Holly Newman, Tanner Strickland, Drew Marchant, Eve Marchant, Heather Strickland and Jill Pelfrey and husband Jonah; one great-grandchild, Madison Rae Pelfrey.

Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by 15 brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. today, Sept. 7, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
