Ruby Lanelle Stallings Brown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Ruby Lanelle Stallings Brown, 87, of Laurels Assisted Living Home in Charlotte, N.C., died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Lake Norman Regional Hospital in Mooresville, N.C.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roger Benton officiating. Burial will be held at Westview Cemetery. Casketbearers will be David Brown, Jim McDonald, Jim Coury, Grady Strawder Jr., Rob Stallings, Mike Stallings and Mike Vinings.

Born April 21, 1917, in Colquitt County, Ms. Brown was the daughter of the late Ruby Mae Perry Stallings and Luther Stallings. She was a telephone operator with Southern Bell and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Stallings, and three sisters, Alma Strawder, Hazel Benton and Edna Brooks.

Survivors include a son, Roger Brown and wife Virginia of Davidson, N.C.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Coury, Debra McDonald, Karen Brown and David Brown; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at the funeral chapel.

Cobb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.



Essie Elizabeth O’Neal “Big Mama” Hathcock

DOERUN — Essie Elizabeth O’Neal “Big Mama” Hathcock, 93, of Doerun died Friday, July 30, 2004, at her residence.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Doerun First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Barrett and the Rev. Paul Peace officiating. Burial will follow at Cool Springs Cemetery in Doerun. Casketbearers will be Mrs. Hathcock’s grandsons, Wally Kennedy, Teddy Kennedy and Hugh Hathcock, and her great-grandsons, Jason Shirah, Lance Shirah, Brandon Hathcock, Gage Hathcock and Shawn Barker.

Born Aug. 5, 1910, in Colquitt County, Mrs. Hathcock was the daughter of the late Martha Shiver O’Neal and Freeman Walker O’Neal. She was a homemaker and an employee of Friedlanders Department Store. She was a member of Doerun First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hathcock was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Douglas “Big Daddy” Hathcock; a son, Earl “Red” Hathcock; a brother, Hulley O’Neal; and a sister, Nettie Blackburn.

Survivors include one daughter, Louise Hathcock Kennedy and husband Harris of Doerun; five grandchildren, Angie Shirah, Teddy Kennedy, Wally Kennedy, Hugh Hathcock and Kim Barker; nine great-grandchildren, Jason Shirah, Lance Shirah, Kimberly Barker, Shawn Barker, Brandon Hathcock, Gage Hathcock, Heather Hathcock, Haylee Hathcock and Hope Hathcock; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
