For Dec. 4
Good idea
“Saturday graduations sound like a good idea. The out-of-town guests have a chance to settle in if they spend the night and the boisterous folks in the stands might behave themselves better in the early hours.”
Women, too
“Correction to ‘Be Proud’… women are serving as well so the ‘our boys’ thing is a little out of place.”
Not on Saturday
“The only reason Mr. Jones wants to change the high school graduation date is to accommodate his schedule, not to lessen the noise volume.
“I know that every year there is a good amount of shouting, but everyone is guilty of it. They are proud that their child is graduating. Do you honestly think that changing it to Saturday will make it quieter?
“No, it will not. I know that my family will be loud when my sister marches.”
Friends
“Friends are forever! I wanted to say that everyone out there has a friend in their lives that makes a difference. Whether they are going through a rough time or just want things to be as they should, we should always try to bring their spirits up no matter how little it may be.”
God bless them
“While I realize that the casualties are much lower in number than in previous conflicts, and I am thankful for that, I encourage all of us to remember that these young people are real individuals, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, being grieved for by real families and friends.
“No matter how we view this war in Iraq, the reality is we are at war, and we should honor the brave soldiers who have gone to fight for this country and their families who are now facing the possibility of losing them.
“God bless them all, and thank you God, that we don’t have the losses suffered in the wars before this.”
And I repeat
“Once again after several attempts to get the point across, the soldiers in Iraq are not fighting for our freedoms!
“We had freedoms before they left, we still got ’em and we’ll have them if they spend the next 10 years over there.
“With all due respect to the military, people need to stop beating that tired old cliche into the ground.”
Hear me plainly
“To the fellow in the group I was talking to the other day: Maybe you didn’t hear me plainly. I do respect and honor the soldier. I was one. I’ve been there. Done that. I don’t however respect the decision to go to war in Iraq.
“The right to dissent is a precious one. And no, we are not fighting for our freedoms. We are fighting for their freedoms (which they don’t seem to appreciate.) We are fighting for oil. And we are fighting to satisfy George W.’s ego. Saying we are fighting for our freedoms has no more basis than saying we are fighting to bring back ‘Barnaby Jones’ to national television.”
Justified
“We must fight the war in Iraq to show the world that we will not tolerate terrorism and the tyrants who deliver terrorism.
“We must look at the bigger picture and understand that war is necessary to keep world order. It’s much more than just security in America.”
