Burglar leaves blood at Oxley's

MOULTRIE — Early Tuesday morning, Moultrie police found blood at Oxley’s Fine Food on Eighth Avenue Northeast that was apparently left by someone who broke into the grocery store and stole cigarettes, reports said.
About 4:40 a.m., responding officers said a glass door was broken by two bricks, and the burglar was cut when he or she entered the store. Several cartons of Kool and Newport brand cigarettes were taken, reports said.
Investigators took several samples from blood left on cigarette cartons and elsewhere. A video tape of the crime was also taken as evidence.
Other incidents
A Volvo truck owned by Benton Brothers Express was destroyed in a fire Tuesday morning on Steve Flores’ property on Causey Road, Colquitt County sheriff’s reports said. The cause of the fire was not indicated in reports.
Betty Rhodes, of Suwanee Road, reported Saturday that someone shot her house seven times with a paint ball gun and then sped off, sheriff’s reports said.
Tim Tygart, of Nashville, reported that someone stole a cash register containing about $4 in change from his display booth at Spence Field between Saturday and Sunday, Moultrie police reports said. Tygart was apparently a vendor at the Automotive Swap Meet and Car Corral.
Veronica Simpson, of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, reported Monday that someone broke into her home and stole a Sony Playstation and Nintendo 64, both of which are video game systems, police reports said.
Arrests
Johnny Pope, 44, 2186 Hwy. 37 W., was charged Tuesday with DUI and improper tag.
Emmitt Dennis, 38, 467 W. Mulberry St., Funston, was charged Monday with violating probation.
Tammy Wheeler, 34, 1311 13th Ave. S.W., was charged Monday with seven counts of bad checks.
Carl McClelland, 58, 365 Newsome Road, was charged Monday with violating probation.
Beverly Walker , 43 of Omega, was charged Sunday with DUI and not wearing a seat belt.
Gerardo Martinez, 29, Dean Matthews Road, was charged Sunday with DUI-second offense, driving without a license, driving without insurance, open container, giving false information to officers and improper headlights.
Peter Thornton, 30, 516 Second Ave. N.W., was charged Friday with criminal trespass.
Albert Flemming, 419 Fifth Ave. N.W., was charged Friday with violating probation.
Ortinclo Ordones, 31, 125 WMTM Road, was charged Friday with DUI, driving without a license, open container, giving false information to officers and speeding and was also served a bench warrant for motor vehicle theft.
Major Adderton III, 29, 157 Willow Drive, was charged Monday with possession of methamphetamine.
Chris Wright, 39, 208 15th St. S.E., was charged Friday with simple battery-family violence and obstruction to an officer.
