U.M. Spence
MOULTRIE — Mr. U.M. Spence, 70, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at 601 Third St. N.W.
The service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Luke Strong and Son Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. C.L. Ponder III officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Spence was born July 26, 1933, in Mitchell County, the son of the late Will and Liala Spence.
Survivors include a devoted friend, Retha Mae Hanes of Moultrie; seven sons, David M. Spence, Eddie Bernard Spence, George Edward Spence, Robert Lee Spence, Michael Jerome Spence, Tommy Spence and wife April, and Willie Spence and wife Michelle, all of Moultrie; four daughters, Shirley Ann Richardson and Sabrina Herring, both of Moultrie; Jasmine Nakee Spence of Pelham, and Elizabeth Spence of Doerun; two brothers, Williams Spence and wife Irene of Pelham and C.T. Spence of Jamesberry, N.J.; one sister, Janie Herring of Pelham; one sister-in-law, Mattie Spence of Camilla; 24 grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Dannie L. Hunt
MOULTRIE — Mr. Dannie L. Hunt, 39, was born Dec. 29, 1964, in Moultrie, the son of Mr. Dannie M. Hunt and Mrs. Pearlie A. Hunt. He died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
The service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ with Pastor Joe Roberts officiating. Burial will be held at St. James Pallbearers Cemetery No. 2. Martinez Gillium, Daryl Harris, Daryl Phillips, Damikius Borge Sr., Michael Easom and Keith Jones will serve as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn J. Hunt; parents, Dannie M. and Pearlie A. Hunt of Pavo; two sons, Dannie L. Hunt Jr. and Marcus M. Hunt; one daughter, Natoyia L. Jones; two brothers, Keith T. Hunt and Ronald D. Hunt and wife Carmel, both of St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters, Debra D. Jessup and husband Darryl of St. Louis, Angela Hunt and Lisa D. Walton and husband Charlie, all of Moultrie; grandmother, Laura Prater; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

DALLAS, Ga. — Fritz Jerry Wiley, 55, of 4319 Old Yorkville Road, Dallas, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Mildred Greer Gay
MOULTRIE — Mildred Greer Gay, 86, of 1600 Cypress Lane, Moultrie, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at her residence.
Graveside rites will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at Pinecrest Memory Gardens with the Rev. Michael Helms officiating.
Mrs. Gay was born Nov. 3, 1917, in Troup County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Greer. She was a registered nurse and worked in the medical office of her husband, Dr. Frank M. Gay. She graduated from the Emory School of Nursing in 1939. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Moultrie Service League and Cherokee Garden Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frank M. Gay.
Survivors include her daughters, Greer Gay Nordquist of Chicago and Frances Beard and husband Tom of Atlanta; grandchildren, David Greer, Rachel Lyda, Hayes Hammock Beard, Jennifer Hummell, Brooks Duncan Beard and Casey Carter Fowler Beard; two great-grandchildren, Aaron David Hummell and Abigail Rose Hummell.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 201 12th Ave. S.E. in Moultrie, or Colquitt County Arts Center, 401 Seventh Ave. S.W.

Rufus Spencer Harrell
MOULTRIE — Rufus Spencer Harrell, 57, of Moultrie, died April 3, 2004, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at Westview Cemetery.
Mr. Harrell was born Nov. 8, 1946, in Colquitt County to the late Rosa Harrell Hancock and the late Wheeler Hancock. A graduate of Moultrie High School’s Class of 1964, he also graduated from Middle Georgia College in Cochran. He was a retired computer operator for the State of Georgia and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his son, Lewis Harrell of Atlanta.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Harrell.

MOULTRIE — Alma Clark, 98, of 4042 Tallokas Road, Moultrie, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville.

Bertalee Murphy Rackley
MOULTRIE — Bertalee Murphy Rackley, 84, of Magnolia Manor South Nursing Home, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with burial at New Bethel Cemetery in Meigs.
Mrs. Rackley was born Jan. 5, 1920, in Colquitt County to the late Ella Mae and Ivey Murphy. She was a homemaker and a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dave Rackley.
Survivors include one son, Charles Rackley of Moultrie; two daughters, Kathryn Ann Meeks of Toccoa and Marlene Godwin of Albany; two brothers, the Rev. Billy Murphy of Moultrie and Buddy Murphy of Thomasville; five grandchildren, Roy Rackley, Rachele Turpen, Jonathan Meeks, Dayne Godwin and Lori Means; and three great-grandchildren, Cole Meeks, Cody Turpen and McKenzie Turpen.
Visitation will be 6:30-8 p.m. today, April 17, at Cobb Funeral Chapel. The family may be contacted at the residence of Charles Rackley, 2048 Funston-Sigsbee Road.

MOULTRIE — James Edwin Williams, 37, of Moultrie, died Friday, April 16, 2004, following an automobile accident in Tifton.

Alice Cecil Hedgwood Rhodes
SANDERSON, Fla. — Alice Cecil Hedgwood Rhodes, 73, of Sanderson, Fla., died Friday, April 16, 2004, at her residence.
Survivors include two sons, David Larimer of Pell City, Ala., and Albert S. Rhodes II of Middleburg, Fla.; two daughters, Alice “Candy” Clary of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Joanna Folsom of Sanderson, Fla.; three sisters, Oudia Wise of Gulf Shores, Ala., Dorothy Miller of Lexington, S.C., and Laverne Jenkins of Long Beach, Calif.; one brother, Lynn Hedgwood of Gulf Shores, Ala.; and other relatives.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, in Road to Calvary Church, Glen St. Mary, Fla., with Pastor Tommy Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Black Creek Baptist church Cemetery in Penny Farms, Fla.
