MOULTRIE — Moultrie police officers were involved in two vehicle chases over the weekend. Officers were able to apprehended one of the drivers involved in a chase Sunday night.

Earnest Bernard Wade Jr., 18, of 722 10th St. S.E., was charged with attempting to elude officers, possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, obstruction, driving without a license and four counts of failure to stop at a stop sign.

Police reports said an officer spotted a small pickup truck driving recklessly on Eighth Street Southeast while he was patrolling the area at 10:19 p.m. Sunday. As the officer drove toward the truck, he saw the truck fishtail out of control into the grass along the road.

Several people and vehicles began to gather near the scene of the accident, and reports said the officer turned on his blue lights for a traffic stop. The truck, identified as a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, got back onto Eighth Street Southeast and turned right onto Ninth Avenue Southeast, running a stop sign at the intersection.

The truck ran another stop sign as it turned right onto Sixth Street Southeast from Ninth Avenue Southeast and ran another stop sign when it turned right onto Seventh Avenue Southeast, reports said. While on Seventh Avenue Southeast, the driver, identified as Wade, jumped out of the truck while it was still moving.

Reports said the officer saw Wade running on foot along Seventh Avenue Southeast, so he pulled up alongside Wade. The officer chased him on foot towards Sixth Avenue Southeast and was able to apprehend him after Wade jumped over a fence near the abandoned truck.

Wade was placed under arrest and taken to Colquitt County Jail. During a search at the jail, officers allegedly found a small pink plastic baggy with white powder inside, believed to be cocaine.

The truck’s owner, Jerry Plymel, of East Gate Drive in Norman Park, reported the truck was stolen to the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office after it broke down on Tallokas Road, reports said. The vehicle was turned back over to Plymel after a search was done by officers and deputies.

A second officer was involved in a chase after he spotted a Saturn sedan on Ninth Street Southwest at 3:11 p.m. Friday. Police reports said the unknown driver and unknown passenger leaned out of view of the officer as he passed the Saturn.

The Saturn then passed by the officer, and reports said the officer tried to pull the vehicle over because it did not have a county decal on its license plate. As the officer turned around, the vehicle sped up and drove recklessly down Ninth Street Southwest.

The Saturn turned onto Fourth Avenue Southwest from Ninth Street Southwest, running a stop sign at the intersection, reports said. The officer turned onto Fourth Avenue Southwest and found the vehicle parked at a residence on Ninth Street Southwest in its backyard.

Reports said the Saturn had its lights on, but the driver and passenger fled from the scene. The officer asked for a tow truck and had the vehicle towed from the scene after a search was made of it.
