Hiawatha Hill Sr.

PALMETTO, Fla. — Mr. Hiawatha Hill Sr., 63, of Palmetto, Fla., died Thursday, March 11, 2004.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at St. John First Baptist Institutional Church, 1108 29th St. E., Palmetto, with the Rev. Fred D. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Ellenton, Fla.

Born April 5, 1940, in Camilla, Mr. Hill was the son of Jim and Mary Lee Hill. When he was 6 months old, his father died, at which time Mr. Hill was reared by his stepfather, Arefellow Hill. He was educated in Georgia and was converted at an early age. He moved to Manatee County, Fla., in 1961 and was united with the St. John First Baptist Institutional Church. Mr. Hill married Marjorie James in 1962 and they had three children, Hiawatha II, Tracy and Christopher. He was a retired insurance agent.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; five children, Dorothy (Melvin) Worrell of Elmhurst, N.Y., Jonathan (Bridgett) Blackshear of Thomasville and Hiawatha II (Shelia), Tracy (Kunle) Oriyomi and Christopher, all of Atlanta; his mother, Mary Lee Hill of Moultrie; his mother-in-law, Lula James of Citra, Fla.; his aunt, Mattie Sue (Joseph) Macon of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his uncle, David Lee (Ida Mae) Hill of Cairo; eight grandchildren; two nephews, Jimmy Wright of St. Petersburg and Tony Murphy of Moultrie; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Westside Funeral Home in Palmetto is in charge of arrangements.



Mattie Williford Dyess

POULAN — Mrs. Mattie Williford Dyess, 96, of Poulan died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Sylvester Health Care.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Banks Funeral Chapel in Sylvester with the Rev. Noah Phillips and the Rev. Jason Blalock officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Moultrie.

Mrs. Dyess is survived by her son, Ollie A. Dyess of Poulan.

Regina Wendl Lightcap

MOULTRIE — Mrs. Regina Wendl Lightcap, 72, of Moultrie died Monday, March 15, 2004, at her residence.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home with Father Mike Smith officiating.

Born Sept. 6, 1931, in Tuzla, Croatia, formerly part of Yugoslavia, Mrs. Lightcap was the daughter of the late Anna Stephonovich Wendl and Karl Wendl. As a child she lived in Linz, Austria, where she met and married Howard C. Lightcap, her husband of 50 years. She resided in Centerville, Ohio, from 1955-1975, Lexington, Ky., from 1975-1980, Enterprise, Ala., from 1980-1992, Miami, Fla., from 1992-1995 and Moultrie from 1995 on. Mrs. Lightcap was a homemaker and of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her husband, Howard C. Lightcap of Moultrie; one son, Mike Lightcap of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Michelle Lightcap Harrell of Warner Robins; one sister, Irene Flores and husband George of Hobart, Ind.; two grandsons, Travis and Lance Harrell of Warner Robins; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends throughout the United States and Europe.

Memorials may be made to Colquitt Regional Medical Center Hospice or to American Cancer Society.

Lavonne Roberts Fender

NASHVILLE — Mrs. Lavonne Roberts Fender, 76, of Nashville died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta following a short illness.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at the Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Earl Buckholts officiating. Burial will follow at Longbridge Church Cemetery in Berrien County.

Born Nov. 29, 1927, in Cook County, Mrs. Fender was the daughter of the late Marvin E. Roberts and Jewell Mae Myers Roberts. She lived in Cook and Berrien counties most of her life. Mrs. Fender was a homemaker and member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Fender; her son, Wayne Fender; and two brothers, P.H. Roberts and Kenneth Roberts.

Survivors include four daughters, Elizabeth Thomas of Lenox, Linda Edwards and husband Clarke of Moultrie, Joyce Carter of Hahira and Debbie Griffin and husband James of Nashville; three sisters, Inez Newbern of Sparks and Bertha Hopper and Nelda Biedermann, both of Adel; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home, Highway 41 South, Adel.

Charlie Pace Jr.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Mr. Charlie Pace Jr., 85, of Tallahassee, Fla., formerly of Moultrie, died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Luke Strong and Son Mortuary.
