For July 10

Indecent

“About the baggy pants. Not only will he not find a reputable job, it is indecent exposure. If women starting wearing their panties and bras exposed, they would be arrested.

“So to me it is the same difference with the guys – who wants to see their underwear? I think it is disgusting to look at, and before you think I am an old person – well I’m not. I just have enough respect for myself and for other people not to show them my underwear.”

In response

“One of the biggest buildings in Moultrie being the welfare office is only one percent of the problem. If you ever get past the front door in one of those buildings, you would see the hundred, or hundreds, of government employees there.”

Britain’s right

“Britain had just as much right to be in India and Palestine as the U.S. now has to be in Iraq. If it’s all right now, it was all right then.”

Baggy pants

“In reference to ‘hey baggy pants:’ I agree with you about the fact that its vulgar. They may say that it is ‘the style’ but to me seeing someone else’s backside isn’t very stylish.

“It makes you look slouchy, and it’s got to be aggravating to have to hold up your pants. Also with it being summer you have to be hot wearing your pants like that. Save yourself some money and nasty looks. Buy a size that fits.”

Welfare

“The only two people actually working on my street of seven houses are myself (a 45-year old, eight-year military veteran who gets no benefits of any kind) and a 70-year old widow who cannot survive on her social security retirement because so many younger people are living rent-free off her and eating up her groceries.

“All the rest of the younger neighbors than ourselves spend idle days on food stamps, welfare, phony disability checks and other scam ‘social benefits’ (that is, getting paid not to work), so what’s to become of this welfare nation that does not even resemble the one we were supposed to be celebrating on July 4th?”

I agree

“I agree that smoking and non-smoking sections in restaurants are a joke. They should be smoke-free entirely in the whole building. I just wonder if there are any politicians brave enough to take on this ‘smoke-free’ issue in Georgia as their election platform? We’ll see……”

Donations

“To the person who said he would be glad to donate to the cause of Shriners hospitals, the Moultrie Shriners will be at Wal-Mart on Saturday July 12 collecting for that cause. During July, the Shriners will be calling on merchants for that purpose also.”

No response

“Yesterday my wife called the police department because she and our children saw a man driving down the street with his arm out the window, dragging a dog on a leash. The police never came. We need better response time.”

Tax issues

“Sales taxes are supposed to keep property taxes from going up. But what happens is, your property is re-evaluated. Where will it end?”
