He went on to attend Albany State College, where he graduated in 1956 with a bachelor of science in education, and received a master’s degree in music from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. In 1956, he married his college sweetheart, Joyce Morning, and from that union two daughters, Sandra and Rhonda, were born.
From 1954 to 1963, he taught school in Dawson and Quitman. He and his family moved to Maywood, Ill., in 1963 where he continued his teaching career with the Chicago Board of Education. In 1972, Mr. Ball welcomed his son, Ronald Jr., into the world, born to him and Rosemary Davis of Chicago, Ill.
Throughout his 40 years with the Georgia and Chicago public school systems he taught several subjects, but his greatest joy was teaching and sharing his love of music. Upon his retirement, Mr. Ball moved back to Moultrie. An illness brought him back to Savannah, where he remained until his death.
